Ethiopia’s Wude Ayalew Yimer showed superb potential in the Würzburger Residenzlauf on Sunday (30 April).
The 18-year-old, who is managed by Italian Dr. Gabriele Rosa, clocked the fastest 10k road time ever by a woman in Germany.
Yimer won the event in 31:30 minutes, improving the course record by eight seconds. There was a huge gap to second placed Aniko Kalovics (Hungary), who clocked 32:14 on a loop course which is said not to be an easy one. Kenyan Milka Jerotich took third place with 32:16.
The men’s race saw a thrilling finish with five runners crossing the line inside just two seconds. All these and in fact the top ten places were taken by Kenyans. Winner Johnstone Chepkwony clocked 28:10, while second placed Elija Sang was given the same time. Ben Kimutai Kimwole was third in 28:11. Stanley Salil and Charles Korir took the next two places, both of them being timed at 28:12.
